PROJECTS
Upcoming Stories - Nick and Lysette
As literary biker Nick and his great vampiric love Lysette make their
way back and forth across the United States and perhaps more of the world,
I'm plotting more tales of their misadventures
For those of you following their route, in Thicker Than
Water, they started in Central Utah, and moved on to Denver.
The next story, appearing in Thinner Than Mist, takes place between
the two, in a little town called Grand Junction, Colorado. It's a story
about leftover ghost impressions and how they relate to the monster of
the week.
After Denver, comes the events of a story as yet unnamed, which recalls
Nick's short-lived bare-knuckle boxing career.
And then, no less than a novel-length, which follows them through southern
Colorado, Utah, Arizona, West Texas, and back to Utah and Colorado.
(A secret about Nick and Lysette is that their adventures will always
take them back to Utah, Colorado, Arizona and Wyoming, no matter how far
afield they may range.)
Then it's east, on to Hayes, Kansas; Kansas City, Missouri and Jefferson
City.
The latest story I've envisioned thus far takes our heroes to St. Louis,
for an adventure penned with the Master of Werewolves himself, Curtis
Hoffmeister.
Upcoming Stories - Other
Two other stories appear in Thinner Than Mist.
One is titled "With Black Curtains." Listen to
it with Eric Clapton as the background, preferably to the song containing
that line. Another is called "Those Eyes,"
which is a story I've been beating my head against for over a decade. Free!
Longer Upcoming Projects
A novel entitled The Herpetology of Stars is
in the works, hopefully for 2009 or 2010. Herpetology
will explore the question: What if the science of demonology had it wrong
all these years? What if, instead of summoning beings from the underworld,
we were merely pissing off a more powerful alien race?
The Tao of Quantum Mathematics
This cycle will feature a new series character who who uses eastern mysticism
to manipulate the particle physics of his little corner of the universe.
Wizards and witches have nothing on this guy. I won't have time to mess
with his adventures until about 2009, but his life is bouncing around
the renaissance mind right now. I'm looking forward to see what falls
out.

I've been a big fan of science fiction ever since I was a young
boy. I cut my teeth on the commercial pulp stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs
and Isaac Asimov, and later, the more thoughtful novels of Orson Scott
Card and the heroic novels of Stephen King.
But I've also always enjoyed the more literary novels and stories
of Ray Bradbury and perhaps my favorite writer of all time, Roger Zelazny.
As a result, my writing is a bit schizoid.
I have a deep love of the old romantic space-opera tales of
worlds that never were and heroes that all boys wanted to be: Tarzan,
Buck Rogers, Doc Savage, John Carter, and Lucky Starr.
But I also love a good character driven thought story, with
a higher vocabulary and a more mysterious bent.
Whether you love adventure stories or character stories, I hope
you'll find something to your liking in these pages of published or upcoming
tales!
